The Next OS Purchase Decision

Given that there's so much praise for Windows 7 (because of real performance), I think I'll skip Vista SP1 (man, they'll be coasters in the near future hahahaha!) and instead pick up Win7 Ultimate.

And in the grand tradition of XP, and considering that my favorite online game can work in Win7 with a little tweak of Gameguard without being nagged by the UAC or a bunch of ridiculous "security" safeguards as in the case of "temperamental" Vista, for the Japanophiles I know best I recommend that they can pick up the now-official Nanami Madobe theme in this place:

http://blog.jap-on.com/2009/10/windows-7-official-nanami-mizuki-and-os-tan-theme/

Or if in case that disappears, go use Google: type in nanami madobe windows 7 theme.

And I did a smaller, 350x150 version of the banner for use as a sig:

In my case, I'll see what I could do with a single-core 2.0Ghz laptop with 512mb of SODIMM PC-100 memory. Maybe there's some 1GB modules somewhere.

And oh, by the way, after I told him we could just replace the failed GPU fan on the 7200GS/256mb video card of his PC for just a few hundred pesos (or about $2), Henry VIII decided to buy a new 8400GS/512mb instead.

I'll keep this card for now. Maybe I'll use that and some bunch of leftover parts to build my own machine.

Man once sang to me, look at you saving the world on your own
And I wonder how things are gonna be
'cause the time here it passes so slow
In the city of devils we live
A city of devils we live

Find somebody to learn
Boy you gotta love someone more than yourself
I can feel the fire of the city lights burn
And it's hard to find angels in hell

Flying along
And I feel like I don't belong
And I can't tell right from the wrong
Why have I been here so long
In a city of devils we live
A city of devils we live

Questions I can't seem to find
To the answers I already have
And you can't see the sky here at night
So I guess I can't make my way back

Flying along
And I feel like I don't belong
And I can't tell right from the wrong
Why have I been here so long

What if I wanted you here right now
Would you fall in the fire
Burn me down
If I wanted you here right now
Would you fall in the fire
Burn me down
If I wanted you here right now

In a city of devils we live
In a city of devils we live
A city of devils we live
In a city of

Flying along
And I feel like I don't belong
And I can't tell right from the wrong
Why have I been here so long
I don't belong
Don't belong
I've been here too long
too long

That's from last Saturday's 500mm rainfall, the worst in Philippine history. The photos show a part of Wilson Street turned into a raging river, with water entering some houses along the creek .

Thus that quote from one of the characters in Die Hard 4, talking about Hurricane Katrina, haunted me: "it took FEMA 5 days to reach the Superdome".

Damn, two of my friends in the list were either worried about their siblings in Cainta, Rizal within the Marikina River Valley (in the case of my boss [info]nemu_asakura), or stunned by the extent of the destruction (in the case of [info]freudian_bitch).

Given the size and scope of this disaster, this is going to be a massive headache on par with Katrina and the Indian Ocean tsunami.

Before I end this post, I find this blog entry rather interesting, as it comments on how Tomoko Kaneda (Azumanga Daioh's Chiyo Mihama) came to be recognized as a seiyuu:

8 years ago Osama Bin Laden sent his men on an insane mission to attack America, and in the process destroyed two of the tallest man-made structures on Earth, killed scores of people, forever changed the world...

...and ruined my dinner.

In the past 8 years he still has not been found and single-mindedness in his pursuit of a single goal, America is still stuck into the twin quagmires of Iraq and Afghanistan, and we still wonder how long the troubles would end.

No rest for anyone, I'm afraid to say.

Lately I'm wondering if the ongoing unemployment/financial crisis in Japan is partly to blame for the growing number of cases of psychiatric problems. The once near-obscure seiyuu are now even being stalked.

Internet addiction center opens in US -- I still wonder about this. I suppose that at this age and time we try to soak as much information as we could, or for some people it's stronger than real life. No surprises if an "Internet Addicts Anonymous" shows up.

But it's still ridiculous to me. I do like having some real-life breaks from the net once in a while.

Manga Version of Hitler's Mein Kampf Sells 45,000 -- sometimes nations still have a persisting trauma that could not be cured completely, especially in the case of Germany as Hitler had plunged that country into near-destruction. He should have been killed in the trenches a long time ago and things would've been different.

Azumanga Daioh - The Complete DVD Collection -- undisputed classic. I wish the Tagalog dub was also included. xD

Tony Stark: They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it... and it's worked out pretty well so far. I present to you the newest in Stark Industries' Freedom line. Find an excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee, the bad guys won't even wanna come out of their caves.

Now here's what's amazing with Guren Onna:

1.) Ai Takabe is one of the lead voices in the sensational post-Marimite series Aoi Hana, who plays the lead role as the geeky teacher and her alter-ego Guren Onna.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
2.) The series also includes some students wearing Lillian-like uniforms. That's not the Yamayurikai! Yes, it has a lot of blatant Marimite references! xD
3.) As if it's not enough, it had been aired on TV Tokyo (which of course once broadcasted Marimite Seasons 1 and 2)!

Coincidence? xD

Well, seems that times have changed, and considering that the slump is still there, things can prosper but things can also decay.

Whether for better or for worse, whether there are admirers and critics, for one thing I'd say thanks to ADV for trying its best to introduce the different world of Japanese animation.

In other news... I don't know if this is for real or made up for the intent for making one electable, but here is delicadeza again at work. However, as much as this is good news, I was hoping that Noy is also preparing himself for the business of serious statesmanship, and why not he should learn the mistakes of the past so that he could anticipate them for months to come?

That might not be enough. It takes some serious change even for ordinary citizens (including me) on what love of country is all about. Merely complaining about the endless problems caused by some politicians can burn out oneself -- one has to do the changes within, even if one doesn't have to serve in the government. One can also bring glory to the country without having to sacrifice a life, and one can live to see the day.

There are many candidates, but I'm through with some guys all too smart or dumb to be presidentiables and past presidents and some politicians below him who didn't have much to do with the true needs of the people and instead plunge this country into the muck whilst they please themselves at the expense of the people.

When the last time there was a president who did not need a crowd of press photographers, or who just tell one of his aides not to give him an umbrella and let the rain soak him and the audience of commoners, or who thought nothing of himself?

Brilliant.
